Starfield PS5 Release Planned for 2026 Alongside Expansion 2

While more and more Xbox games are being released on the PS5, one Xbox-exclusive game that still hasn’t been announced for the PS5 is Bethesda’s Starfield. Given Microsoft’s multi-platform publishing stance, it’s just a matter of when the sci-fi RPG will be available on Sony’s console, rather than if it’ll ever be released.

For those on PS5 hoping to play Starfield on their console this year, that won’t be happening just yet.

Starfield on PS5 Won’t Be Releasing in 2025

According to our sources, MP1st was told that Starfield won’t be released in 2025, partly due to the RPG’s weak sales of the first expansion, Shattered Space. Instead, Microsoft is leaning toward releasing the Starfield PS5 version in Spring 2026. For those not in the US, spring starts the middle of March and runs until mid-June.

From what we were told, Starfield’s release on PS5 is planned to coincide with the game’s second expansion and other quality-of-life updates. We are also not expecting any announcement about the PS5 version of the game at this August’s gamescom, so don’t expect it to be shadowdropped like Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered release a few months ago, which is something we reported on accurately (for anyone keeping score).

Similar to any release and marketing plan, there are numerous moving parts, and things are constantly changing. However, based on the information we have currently, we do not expect Starfield to be released this year.

As for the next former Xbox-exclusive hitting the PS5, it’s Gears of War: Reloaded due for release this August. Other reported Xbox games hitting the PS5, though unannounced, include Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3, according to a game developer working on the titles.

While Starfield’s first expansion might not have done as well as Bethesda expected, the base game is still a fantastic RPG. Our review of the Xbox version was very glowing, and said, “. It has everything you’d want from a Bethesda game: a deep and prosperous universe filled with endless possibilities and limitless potential.”

  • Itch begins “re-indexing” free adult NSFW content, as it seeks alternative payment processors

Itch begins “re-indexing” free adult NSFW content, as it seeks alternative payment processors

Itch.io – the digital distribution platform known for its focus on independent game developers and other artists – is today re-indexing adult NSFW (Not Suitable For Work) content that is available for free.

In addition, it is currently in discussions with payment processors who are comfortable with adult material, and will be reintroducing paid content “slowly” to ensure it can “confidently support the widest range of creators in the long term”.

Itch.io noted that payment processor Stripe has said it will not support adult content that has been “designed for sexual gratification”.

In a statement shared with Itch.io, Stripe said:

“Stripe is currently unable to support sexually explicit content due to restrictions placed on them by their banking partners, despite card networks generally supporting adult content (with the appropriate registrations). Stripe has indicated that they hope to be able to support adult content in the future.”

In the meantime, Itch.io said those who wish to have their pages eligible for today’s re-indexing process must ensure they have the “no payments” option checked.

The platform is also putting a new content warning system in place for pages tagged as being NSFW. It states this refers to pages that have the “contains sensitive material” option checked, as well as tags that suggest the project includes adult content such as “porn” and “fetish”.

Itch.io said anyone wanting to be eligible for re-indexing is “required to complete this”. The platform added the feature is not quite ready as yet, but those who had their pages previously indexed will be given enough time to complete all the necessary processes “to avoid going in and out of indexing”.

You can find further information on the platform’s re-indexing efforts via Itch.io.

Today’s update from Itch.io follows last week’s news that the platform had “deindexed” all NSFW content following discussions with payment processors contacted by the same Australian pressure group that recently targeted Steam.

In June, itch.io creators began reporting their NSFW games were no longer being displayed in search results on the platform. At this time, platform founder Leaf Corcoran said: “We are truly sorry for the frustration and confusion caused by this change.”

Itch.io’s movement followed on from Valve “retiring” unspecified NSFW titles and introducing vague new rules banning “certain kinds of adult content” from its own PC storefront.

  • Apple has now shipped 3 billion iPhones

Apple has now shipped 3 billion iPhones

Apple has shipped its three billionth iPhone, Tim Cook has revealed during a call for the company’s third quarter earnings. The company released the first iPhone in 2007 and sold its billionth iPhone in 2016. It is believed to have shipped its two billionth sometime in 2021, and now only four years later, it has reached the new milestone. Apple’s CEO said the iPhone enjoyed a double digit growth in the third quarter and that the company earned $94 billion in revenue, up 10 percent year over year. In a tweet, Apple expert Mark Gurman suggested that iPhone sales over the past quarter were driven by people who bought one out of fear that the device would be out of their reach in the future due to Trump’s tariffs.

Speaking of tariffs, they cost the company $800 million in the quarter ending in June, Cook said during the call. In the next quarter ending in September, Apple believes tariffs will cost the company $1.1 billion.

Apple is slated to announce its next iPhone models in a matter of weeks, probably sometime in September like last year’s devices. Gurman previously reported that Apple is releasing an iPhone 17 Air this generation to match the Air models of its other products. It will reportedly be an ultra-thin phone, as its designation implies, will have a single camera lens and be powered by a basic A19 chip. The phone could also be equipped with Apple’s in-house modem that debuted with the iPhone 16e and come with a 6.6-inch screen. It could cost buyers around $900, which is around $100 more than the base iPhone 16 and is on par with the price of the iPhone 16 Plus.

In addition to announcing Apple’s three billionth iPhone, Cook also announced during the call that the company is “significantly growing out investments” in artificial intelligence. He said an acquisition to boost its AI efforts and accelerate its roadmap wasn’t out of the question, though he didn’t name any specific company that Apple could potentially purchase.
